Public Reading of Scripture
Every Thursday at noon, Hephzibah opens our doors to our guests and neighbors for a shared meal and intentional time listening to the Scriptures for 30 minutes. Will you join us? RSVP using the form at right. There is no cost to attend.
Why listen to Scripture? Public reading of Scripture is a spiritual discipline that has been commonplace among the people of God. Listening was the main way the Israelites and the early church engaged with the Bible. Even Jesus himself participated in this practice (Luke 4:16-21). In the New Testament, Paul admonishes Timothy not to give up the public reading of Scripture (1 Tim 4:13). Coming together receptively and allowing Scripture to speak for itself with minimal commentary can help us experience the Bible in a fresh way. We invite you to meet God in his word in this new (old) way with us!
