Activities for Internationals

The Hephzibah House Ministry has had active interest in international countries, people, and students from its inception.   And since the mid-seventies, a very active involvement has taken place in  New York City with international student outreaches of many kinds.   With prayerful care, we are deeply interested in these students also after they return to their home countries.

Many gatherings have taken place as we have sought to be helpful in both practical and spiritual ways.  Over the years, God has been enlarging the number of people with other ministries working specifically with international students.

In 2011, we invited   a student from Benin, Africa to join our staff as an intern.  He has worked closely with international student ministry and will now have a significant role for Hephzibah House in student affairs and ministry.  He stands ready to invite you here for friendship and encouragement, etc.

HEPHZIBAH HOUSE MINISTER TO STUDENTS, WITH SPECIAL INVITATION TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS….WE ARE PLANNING MANY DIFFERENT  WAYS TO SERVE YOU THIS YEAR.  PHONE US AT HEPHZIBAH HOUSE, or email Ghislain Ligan, Coordinator,  ghislig@yahoo.fr. You may also phone him at 212-787-6150 and he will return your call if he’s not in. Thank you.

ENGLISH FOR IMMIGRANTS!!

Hello Dear Friends,

I hope all are well and recovering from “Sandy”.  The English for Immigrants program at Hephzibah House was also impacted by her.  We had to push back our November 1 start date since the Mass Transit system was shut down, but expect to kick in to gear next week.  By that time, considering the progress that has been made so far, hopefully, all the trains will be up and running.  For those of you who still may not know about the program, we established an English conversational language program to help adults have a better command of the language.  We targeted adults because students have English as a Second Language courses, but their parents are left out of the mix.  Also, other adults can find it difficult or costly to find classes and most times are left out of the learning process.

We have several students and volunteers currently on board, but this outreach is ongoing.  If you know anyone who you believe would benefit from this program, or you would like to be a volunteer (at least two (2) hours of your valuable time is needed), please call us at 212-787-6150.

You can’t volunteer?  Please continue to keep this ministry in prayer.  As we are teaching, we are seeking the opportunity to minister the gospel.  We have dedicated this work, as we have all the others here at Hephzibah House, to the Lord.

Warmest regards,

Willie-Mae (Coordinator English for Immigrant Ministry)

We are very excited about the prospect of our new English for Immigrants Program. A conversational style, it is designed to help our friends from other lands have a better command of the English language for work, home, and interaction with the general population. Subjects will include:  asking for directions, writing and saying numbers, expanding vocabulary using simple sentences, shopping, and more.
